This CCA used COST&#8217;s networking instruments to achieve several deliverables in the context of the following specific objectives:<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Create learning tools to enhance the value and impact of public engagement with science;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Explore ways of achieving high-quality, evidence-based, interdisciplinary science communication, targeting diverse audiences;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Address the gap between the scientific community, policy makers, journalists and citizens\/stakeholders; and<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Develop high-quality training in science communication.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p><em>\u201cEurope needs a new ambitious research agenda for the science of science communication that will ensure robust, and socially sustainable relations between science, policy and society for the next decade. By using the interactive format of the World Caf\u00e9, participants at the CCA scoping event analysed and discussed how to engage in science communication and science stakeholder relations across Europe, set priorities, and define the tools and channels necessary to connect researchers, journalists and policy makers.The main aim of the scoping event was to receive input from participants regarding the CCA specific objectives, deliverables and Working Groups, which helped shape the CCA Memorandum of Understanding.<\/p>\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Kick-off meeting<\/h4>\n<p>On 2 October 2019 the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cost.eu\/news\/kick-off-meeting-of-new-cost-initiative-cross-cutting-activity-on-science-communication\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">kick-off meeting<\/a>\u00a0for the CCA on science communication took place in Brussels. This CCA, which will run as a pilot from 2 October 2019 until 1 October 2021, will aim to achieve high-quality, evidence-based and cross-sectoral science communication across Europe. This global objective will be the key focus of the high-level CCA network, consisting of researchers, journalists, policy makers, and representatives from public institutions. Within this initiative, COST provides CCA members with a platform for exchange between more than 50 stakeholders, all of them active in the wider field of science communication.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-150632\" src=\"https:\/\/www.cost.eu\/uploads\/2021\/04\/1-small-group-shot.jpeg\" alt=\"Group photo of 60+ science communication experts in the COST office for the kick-off of the CCA\" \/><\/p>\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Final conference<\/h4>\n<p>On 23 June 2022, COST organised the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cost.eu\/final-cca-conference\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Final Conference<\/a>\u00a0of its \u2018Cross-Cutting Activity\u2019 (CCA) on Science Communication, chaired by Prof. David Budtz Pedersen. Held at Aalborg University in Copenhagen, the event marked a new and final milestone for the CCA. The primary beneficiaries of the outcomes will be COST Action participants and the wider R&amp;I (policy) community in Europe. Cross-Cutting Activity on career development for young researchers Launched&nbsp;in December 2024 this new Cross-Cutting Activity dives into the need to improve career development conditions to attract and retain the best researchers in Europe. It will run until&nbsp;December&nbsp;2026. A unique network, consisting of (young) researchers, career advisory experts and key stakeholder organisations, will work together towards achieving a more balanced brain circulation and improved career development of young researchers. This CCA will be guided by the Council Recommendation on a European Framework to attract and retain research, innovation and entrepreneurial talents in Europe (2023) and European Charter for Researchers (2023). Cross-Cutting Activity on science communication In 2019, COST introduced a pilot CCA on science communication.
